#ASINGKAN : 3 Things you need to know

Of late everyone seems to be on high alert about separating their trash, mostly out of fear of being fined. However what most don’t know is that waste segregation was made compulsory starting from 1st September 2015.

1. Which areas are affected?
Under the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672), the Ministry of Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government decided to make #ASINGKAN  compulsory in  Kuala Lumpur, Perlis, Johor, Melaka, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan Kedah and Putrajaya.

2. How to separate the waste
Trash is to be separated into two main categories, Recyclable Waste and Residual Waste. The waste must further be separated into sub categories.  Paper, Plastic, and Others (glass, aluminium, fabric, leather, rubber, hazardous waste, bulky waste (furniture), and garden waste) will all fall under Recyclable.  Kitchen waste, contaminated materials, food waste and disposable diapers are considered Residual Waste.

3. Collection Schedule
Waste sorted and properly packaged in plastic bags or containers…so what’s next? Well, recyclables are to be places next to a bin and residuals inside  bin. A 2+1 system has put into place where Residual Waste will be collected twice a week and Recyclable Waste once a week.
